John 13:1-17
No-matter-what kind of love
A come-what-may kind of love.
Whatever happens, my love for you will never die.
Peter objected to the idea of having his feet washed by the one he called Lord.
"Unless I do this, you have no part with me."
We're here to serve.
Jesus said that “the son of man came not to be served, but to serve...” (Matthew 20:28)
But what do we do when we're not here?
We're powerless without it and the enemy is powerless against it.
1. You Serve Because You Love.
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 ESV)
The bigger the 'why' the easier the 'how.'
We serve because we love.
What am I actually doing about it?
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:18)
2. You serve because it’s the right thing to do.
It means that you serve because of who you are, not because of who they are.
Sometimes the good you do will go unnoticed, unacknowledged, unappreciated.
Sometimes you'll help someone, and no one will ever know about it.
Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that doing all these great and wonderful things will make us the hero ... and it won't.
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:3-4)
3. You Serve Because It Gives You Meaning.
When serving others becomes a lifestyle, it will certainly make its mark on the world around.
He believed that meaning is not found in success, but in service.
"The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."
17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
A life spent serving others is the mark of true greatness.
