Nehemiah 13:1-31
The unavoidable truth that spiritual success doesn’t maintain itself.
He prayed.
They tried to distract him, and intimidate him, and manipulate him.
Revival swept through the city.
They recommitted themselves to worship and obedience.
No matter how mighty the hand of God may be in any moment, there's never room for coasting.
No amount of victory yesterday will ever make today's obedience unnecessary.
The saying means that you don't let yourself glide after one taste of success.
"Look how far I've made it. I can coast the rest of the way."
How do you maintain victory as a lifestyle?
1. He Took a Stand for That Which is Sacred.
The prevalence of compromise.
Compromise comes disguised as convenience, or a courtesy, and it seems so harmless at the beginning.
"What could it hurt if we made this one small accommodation?"
Sacred space matters.
What we allow into God's space reveals what we value.
Who are you allowing to live rent-free in your thoughts, and your focus, and your priorities?
2. He Held Fast to the Fundamentals.
They simply stopped prioritizing the fundamental things that once sustained their spiritual life.
It was to be their daily connection to the power and the presence of God.
They are our lifelines to victory.
You maintain revival by remaining faithful in the fundamentals.
3. He Made Influence a Non-Negotiable.
The next generation was now being shaped by voices other than God's Word.
He has no tolerance for insiders who drift from Him.
Notice that the people hadn't rejected God outright.
He knew that their faith would become, once again, something remembered instead of something lived.
Who is influencing us?
We want to be known for our actions, motivated by love and compassion.
It's like the difference between a great wedding and a great marriage.
Hold fast to the fundamental habits that keep you on track.
