PSALM 85

Sometimes the evidence of this "awayness" is a superficial or casual approach to the Christian life.
There is usually a process of deterioration, a process of compromise.
Eventually it becomes impossible to see the place where you used to be.
We become so "lost" that it becomes all but impossible to find our way back home.
"Can I get there from here?"
God is willing—and able—to restore you.
Restore us, revive us, forgive us, save us.

• Begin listening to God.
(v. 7) I will listen to what God the Lord will say...
When we fail to listen, we start to drift.
Your life doesn't have to be an emotional roller coaster.
• Abandon your foolishness.
(v. 7) I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints—but let them not return to folly.
The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing again and again, expecting a different result.
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. (Proverbs 26:11)
When you see your behavior for what it really is, it's a lot easier to abandon it.
We need to recognize that sin is destructive, and foolish, and totally unnecessary.
• Take God seriously.
(v. 9) Surely his salvation is near those who fear
Him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
He's talking about holy reverence—recognizing God for who He is.
God must become our top priority; we must begin taking Him seriously.
As you move in His direction, He will move in your direction.
