Matthew 6:22-23

"What you see is what you get."

That what you see as you live your life day by day really is what you get.

Jesus is saying, in effect, what you see is what you'll get.

1. What do you see in the past?
  • What do you remember?
  • Which list will you review most often?
  • It's amazing that one of the greatest athletes of all time sees the past with such anger and resentment.
  • Do you know how God wants you to see the past?
  • I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. (Psalm 77:11)
2. What do you see in the future?
  • What do you expect?
  • The possibility of victory.
  • "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."
  • You can learn how to hope.
  • "be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
  • For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • We can face the future knowing that God is in control, and God is good, and He will see us through.
3. What do you see in this moment?
  • What are you focused on today?
  • Each day has enough trouble of its own.
  • There are no responsibility-free days this side of heaven.
  • Today I am looking at today.
  • This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
  • Today is the day of God's favor.
  • God sees His hand at work in your life, even when you weren't aware of it.
  • We see what we think we see; He sees what we cannot see.
  • Let's live this day as God has promised it can be lived.
