Psalm 146:5-10
 
How To Be Happy.
 
"It's pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness. Poverty and wealth have both failed."
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:12)
 
1. God wants you to be happy.
  • It's referring to a deep and abiding contentment in God.
  • "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." (Luke 2:14 NIV)
  • If the Christmas story teaches us anything, it teaches us that God has hope for us.
  • David is saying that this God you serve wants to bring good things into your life.
2. God wants to be your first call for help.
  • (v. 5) Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob...
  • We tend to treat God as a last resort, not a first resort.
  • Every moment that you resist His help only serves to delay your happiness.
  • This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; He saved him out of all his troubles. (Psalm 34:6)
3. God wants to be your only hope.
  • (v. 5) Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God...
  • My hope for a good life here and for eternal life in heaven is in the hands of the Almighty God.
  • That means burning the bridges to the possibility of any life you might have without God.
  • Putting your hope in God means that you make a permanent, life-sustaining commitment to live in Him.
  • The blessed life is the best life you'll ever possibly experience.
  • (v. 5) Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.
