Listen to the Message

Genesis 28:10-22

He cared so little about his birthright that he sold it for a single meal.
And now it was time for Jacob to hear ... and to believe ... and to obey.
He set about making some choices.
And at some point in our lives, we all need a new beginning.

1. Knowing God Becomes a Personal Matter.
  • Jacob wasn't a man of faith or a man of prayer.
  • His father's religion became real to Jacob.
  • You give Him your heart, your life, and you begin a new relationship with Him.
  • I'm also talking about trusting in His promises every day of your life.
  • But so many times we go through life thinking that the promises were meant for everyone else but me.
  • "Yes, Lord. I believe it. And I receive it."
2. Recognizing the Presence of God in your Everyday Experience.
  • When he woke up a few hours later, he saw things in a different way.
  • The House of God.
  • Where you are right now, it's holy ground, because God is there.
  • Your prayers don't have to go higher than the ceiling.
  • This is holy ground — not because you're here, but because He is here.
  • Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
3. Surrendering Your Life to His Lordship.
  • He was ready to make some long-term life-changing decisions.
  • "OK Lord, in response to your promise, here's my promise."
  • "I surrender my life to you, from now on. And I mean business."
  • I am making a stand, and I'm ready to back up my words with actions.
  • God, I'm trusting you all the way.
  • "This is my choice, here I stand, and I will not budge."
  • It is this kind of I-surrender-and-I-mean-business mentality that leads to a promise-filled life.
  • God is doing a work in Jacob that will continue all of Jacob's life.
  • And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT)

I am His.
He is here.
Here I stand.
