Listen to the Message

Genesis 21:8-21

In God's story there's no such thing as a minor character.
"This is all your fault!"
"Where are you from and where are you going?"
"I will give you more descendants than you can count."
You are the God who sees me.

1. Promises don’t eliminate problems.
  • Life is tough for everyone.
  • Viewing the past in terms of what you should have done.
  • "This is what you need to do now."
  • Everyone in this narrative contributed to the dysfunction of this situation.
  • Life continued to be just a little bit messy for all of them.
  • Living a promise-filled life doesn't mean living a life without problems or a life without imperfections.
  • Our challenge is to try to minimize the mess.
2. Your Tears Matter in Heaven.
  • Your needs have not gone unnoticed before God's throne.
  • This time, not by her own doing.
  • God heard their cries.
  • God said: I have seen. I have heard. I am concerned.
3. Only God can open your eyes.
  • You need to ask God for the wisdom and the clarity to see what you need to see.
  • There's something about distress that prevents us from seeing what we need to see.
  • God's solution to your problem is right there in front of you, but you don't see it.
  • God sees you where you are right now.
  • You matter to God.
  • God sees you where you are.
