Listen to the Message
Proverbs 6:20-23
Being a mom is probably the hardest job in the world.
With our actions and our attitudes
1. Embrace the best of her lessons.
-
No parent is perfect.
-
"Things my mother taught me"
-
Mom taught me that no matter how hopeless things may seem, there is always something you can do.
-
Mom taught me that running away from your feelings is a race you'll never win.
-
"Thank you, mom."
2. Follow the best of her examples.
-
Most moms do this without fanfare and without issuing a press release.
-
She demonstrated the kind of forgiveness that leaves the offense in the past and never brings it up again.
-
She isn't perfect, but there's no reason to dwell on the imperfections.
-
Moms never stop being moms, and kids never stop needing them.
-
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
3. Fill in the gaps with grace.
-
Even the best parents don't score a 10 in every category.
-
Don't wait until life teaches you its own bitter lessons before you begin to extend grace to others.
-
If someone curses their father or mother, their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness. (Proverbs 20:20)
-
Our responsibility is to view others through the lens of compassion, and mercy and grace.
-
"Honor your father and mother." (Exodus 4:12)
