What to do When You’ve Blown It

Listen to the Message

{podcast What to do When Youve Blown It}
Psalm 51

The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.

The Lord was very displeased with what David had done. (2 Samuel 11:27)

David’s story teaches how to make things right after you’ve made everything wrong.

1. A Change Of Heart
  • He could only confess his sin and ask God for forgiveness.
  • We justify it.
  • Getting right requires a change of heart.
  • “Are you sorry you did it, or are you sorry you got caught.”
  • A change of heart means we are sorry we did it.
2. A Change of Mind
  •  Our tendency is to place blame elsewhere when we fail.
  • You must stop blaming others and accept responsibility for your actions.
  • “I thought it was a terrible idea. I thought it would work, but it didn’t. It was one of the worst mistakes I ever made.”
3. A Change of Direction
  • You must depend on Him to cleanse and forgive you.
  • Come to God Just As I Am
  • 1 John 1:9
  • Spend time alone with God on a consistent basis.
  • Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Ask God to give us a sense of joy.
  • Ask for the power to be consistent.
  • Look for the chance to help others.
  • There’s more to repentance than just feeling bad.
  • Repentance removes guilt.
  • Repentance results in joy.
