Listen to the Message
1. You have to build your marriage on a foundation of
faith. “... as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord”
(Joshua 24:15 NLT).
If your marriage is to last a lifetime it has to be built on
something stronger than romance. No matter how much you
love each other it will take more than love to sustain your
marriage when the hard times come.
2. You have to love your spouse more than you love
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and
gave himself up for her…” (Ephesians 5:25 NIV 1984).
3. You have to communicate—You have to be able to talk
By talking things through instead of blaming each other and
retreating into silence you keep the channels of
communication open even as you strengthen each other and
4. You have to be willing to forgive each other.
“Bear with each other (New Living Translation says ‘Make
allowance for each other’s faults) and forgive one another if
any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the
Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).
